My Story

My name is Kieran, I'm 51 and live alone, on Christmas day I suffered an acute pontine haematoma, a hypertensive bleed on the brain, or more commonly called a stroke.

I prefer to call it my 'stroke of luck' because most people who have what I did die on the spot.

I consider myself lucky despite how much it has effected me because I know it could have been a lot worse.

I am completely numb on my right side and have vision and hearing issues which combined have greatly affected my balance and mobility and suffer the curse of brain fog and severe fatigue.

Basic every day tasks which you’d take for granted are now massive goals and achievements, but each day I try again.

Being Evicted

My Landlord visited me on April 16th, I thought it was about fixing the many issues in the flat, especially the severe mould issue in my bedroom  that I’d told him about back in January after I got out of hospital, or fixing the heating that hadn’t worked from the day I moved in, but no, he wanted to discuss that he was putting the rent up when my contract ended in June.

I told him that I was already struggling to make the rent as it was as my housing benefit was only £1150 a month and the rent was £1600.

4 hours later I received official notice of the Section 21 order.

Shame he wasn’t so quick to fix anything,

What Next?

Honestly, I really don’t know.

I naively thought that considering my condition and vulnerability I would qualify to be helped by the Council but after hours of being on hold, countless emails and multiple forms filled in I have made little or no progress.

I was scared when I first found out I was being evicted, but with just over 2 weeks until I am, Im no longer scared, Im terrified.

My stroke was caused by high blood pressure and after months of trying different combinations of medicine, I reached my target of 130/80 – for a week!

Sadly with all this stress and worry it’s getting back up to 180/105.
